Heads up if you’re a New York City resident.
The Department of Homeland Security and city agencies plan to test the city’s subway system in preparation for a chemical or biological attack.
That includes deploying a ‘non-toxic’ gas into random locations at random times.
How many people trust the federal government that it’s actually a non-toxic agent?
Call me skeptical or a conspiracy nut, but I don’t trust them for a second.
The tests will be conducted on five unknown days between October 18th and 29th.
The study is part of the Urban Threat Dispersion Project.
Here’s more info from NYC 311:
The Urban Threat Dispersion (UTD) project is part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) efforts to enhance the resiliency of urban areas and transit systems against chemical and biological agents.
This project is an airflow and dispersion study that will simulate the aerosol release of a biological agent in a densely populated urban environment. This study will be conducted in New York City and involve the release of safe gas and the collection of air samples and materials that settle on the ground and other surfaces afterward.
The results will directly benefit and inform outdoor, subway, and infrastructure modeling used by transit and emergency management officials as part of emergency response actions.
The study will take place from October 18 through October 29, during this time you might see personnel outside and in subways being escorted by New York City Police officers while they perform air flow tests.
Others may trust the federal government’s experiments, but I’ll pass on navigating the subway that timeframe.
Because who knows what agent they release.

NBC New York had the report:
New York City’s response plans for a chemical or biological attack will be put to the test in the coming weeks as part of a study of the city’s subway system.
The MTA says the Department of Homeland Security working alongside a team of researchers and city agencies will deploy a non-toxic gas this month at about 120 locations operated by transit agencies.
The tests will be conducted on five separate days between Oct. 18 and 29.
Straphangers and anyone in the vicinity of testing operations is advised that the gas is non-toxic and poses no health risk to the public.
The study simulates “the aerosol release of a biological agent in a densely populated urban environment.”
“The study will track movement of non-toxic material and the results from these tests will be used to learn more about the relationship between airflow in street level and underground environments,” the MTA said.
